About Our Therapist
Florence established Turquoise Sky Massage in 2006 after completing her massage training at The Sedona School of Massage in Sedona, AZ, and subsequently passing the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork test to become a nationally certified massage therapist. Florence is a member of The Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals and actively pursues continuing education opportunities in her areas of specialty, Connective Tissue Therapy and Structural Bodywork, which she blends creatively and seamlessly with Swedish Massage, Cranial Sacral Therapy, and Deep Tissue Massage to provide her clients with custom massage sessions designed to provide relaxation, rehabilitation, and pain relief on an ongoing basis.
When not in session, Florence can be found hiking the beautiful foothills surrounding Hidden Springs and Boise, snowshoeing or skiing at Bogus Basin in winter, kayaking on the Payette River in the summer months, curling up with a good book, tending to her organic herb garden, or perusing the aisles of The Boise Coop for tasty organic treats. Florence brings her love of outdoor activities (along with her personal and professional knowledge of the aches and pains that may "go with" such activities) to her massage practice. She combines this love of the outdoors with a passion for helping her clients relax and attain a sense of balance and calm during and after their massage sessions.
Prior to becoming a massage therapist, Florence was a university professor, specializing in modern Latin American literature. She received her Ph.D. from UC Davis and taught there while she was a graduate student. She also held positions at New Mexico State University, The College of Saint Benedict, and Boise State University, where she was variously department chair and section head of the Spanish program. After over 20 years of teaching, it was time to explore new career and life possibilities. Florence's post-academic journey has been a revelation, and continues to evolve as she expands her practice of therapeutic massage and deepens her understanding of the interrelatedness of mind and body.
